CBE (Competency Based Education)
Kenya has transitioned from the (CBC) to the broader (CBE) system. While CBC mainly focused on what is taught, CBE covers the full education experience, including curriculum delivery, assessment, learner progression, and career pathways.
Elimu Plus Homeschool is currently the only full-time online school in Kenya offering the CBE system, where learners attend classes, complete assessments, and prepare for national evaluations entirely online, without the need to report to a physical school for daily learning. However, for national assessments such as KPSEA and KJSEA, learners sit for the examinations physically at officially registered examination centres as guided by the Ministry of Education and KNEC.
Learner Registration & Transfers (NEMIS and Assessment Numbers)

​All learners must be registered in NEMIS, usually from PP1 or Grade 1, which tracks enrollment and school transfers throughout a learner’s education.

From Grade 3, learners must also have an Assessment Number to participate in all official School-Based Assessments (SBA) and national assessments, including KPSEA (Grade 6) and KJSEA (Grade 9).

When transferring from a physical school to Elimu Plus Homeschool (online), the current school must initiate the transfer in NEMIS. Once approved, the learner can be fully enrolled and registered for assessments with us.
